Learn about pumpkin plants while creating a wonderful craft.
Objectives: The student will be able to:
- Identify plants which are related to the pumpkin.
- Pumpkin Pumpkin Make-N-Take
- Yellow pumpkin parts
- Orange pumpkin parts
- Green pumpkin parts
- Brown pumpkin parts
STEP ONE: Gather your supplies: 2 paper plates (you can buy orange ones or just use a crayon and color them), plant parts cut out from download, scissors, yarn, tape and stapler.
STEP TWO: Tape one end of the yarn to the inside of one of the plates.
STEP THREE: Staple both plates together to form the large pumpkin. Do not staple about 2″ on either side of where the string comes to create a 4″ hole.
STEP FOUR: Attach the plant pieces in the following order starting at the far end of the string; the seed (that is how the plant starts), the leaf (without it the plant would not make food and grow big), the flower (the flower must be fertilized in order for the pumpkin, or fruit, to grow), the green pumpkin (when the pumpkin first begins to grow where the flower once was it is small, immature and green), and finally the small orange pumpkin.
STEP 5: Put all the plant pieces inside of the large pumpkin so that you can pull out each piece at a time and explain each one to the students. Or as an evaluation you can ask the students to explain each piece as they pull it out.
