Phosphate: The Nutrient from Florida

Phosphate: The Nutrient from Florida

Brief Description:
Special resources found in Florida are an essential requirement for the food production of most crops across the United States and beyond. This mapping activity will highlight that fact for Florida students and reinforce the plant nutrient message from the previous lesson (Feed Me: Nutritional Building Blocks.)

Objectives: Students will be able to:

  1. Identify that a key plant nutrient and human nutrient, phosphate, is mined in Florida; and
  2. Map the locations of those phosphate deposits and phosphate mines on a map of Florida.
