Brief Description
This project helps teach K-2nd graders the five food groups using a hands on activity.

Objectives: The student will be able to:

  • Describe the five food groups, and what foots go into those groups.


Step-by-Step Pictures:

STEP ONE: Gather your supplies: paper, scissors, popsicle stick, glue, crayons or markers (red, green, orange, blue, and purple).

STEP TWO: Trace hand with a pen.

STEP THREE: Cut hand out with scissors.

STEP FOUR: Label fingers as follows:

  • “Fruit” is the pinky finger – Red
  • “Vegetables” is the ring finger – Green
  • “Grains” is the middle finger – Orange
  • “Milk” is the pointer finger – Blue
  • “Meat/Beans” is the thumb – Purple

STEP FIVE: Glue popsicle stick to the hand.
