Excellence in Teaching about Agriculture Award Application

Excellence in Teaching about Agriculture Award Application

Dear Teachers and Volunteers:

Florida Agriculture in the Classroom, Inc. (FAITC) each year sponsors an awards program for Florida teachers who demonstrate that they use Agriculture in the Classroom concepts in their classroom lessons. Eligible nominees are certified teachers who are engaged in integrating agricultural concepts into non-vocational agriculture settings in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade or middle school agri-science teachers who teach in a rotation system.

Teachers who are interested in nominating themselves or other teachers, or volunteers who are interested in nominating teachers, have until Friday, Nov. 14, 2014 to complete the enclosed application form and mail it to Florida Agriculture in the Classroom. Nomination forms should be postmarked on or before Nov. 14, 2014.

The overall Florida winner will receive a $500 honorarium and the other three winners will receive $250 each. All four teacher winners will receive all expenses paid trips to the National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference June 16-20, 2015 in Louisville, KY.

A teacher will be chosen from winners of the elementary, middle and high school categories as the Florida nominee for the National Excellence in Teaching about Agriculture Award. The middle school agri-science teacher winner can compete for the national award if he or she demonstrates that his or her project reaches outside his or her classroom to other students in the school. Information about last year’s award winners is available on the Florida Agriculture in the Classroom website at www.agtag.org  (Please note that if you applied for 2014 and did not win, you are eligible for this year’s awards program. Please re-apply if you continue to include agricultural concepts in your classroom studies.)

We look forward to receiving your applications.  Please contact Lisa Gaskalla at (352) 846-1391 or at Gaskalla@ufl.edu with any questions.
