Commissioner, Cabinet Celebrate Ag Lit Day

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam recognized Florida Agriculture Literacy Day at the Cabinet Cabinet_photo-4-26-2016meeting in Tallahassee Tuesday April 26, which was the day of the elementary school reading event.

The Commissioner was joined at the Cabinet meeting by home school students from the Tallahassee area.

“Florida Ag Literacy Day is a fun and entertaining way to bring agriculture into the classroom,” said Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam. “It’s important to educate Florida’s next generation on where our food comes from and how important the agriculture industry is to all of us.”

Hundreds of Florida farmers, growers, ranchers, Florida Farm Bureau, FFA students and teachers, 4-H students and parents, University of Florida IFAS extension agents and master gardeners and other agriculture representatives are reading in honor of the event.

These volunteer readers are visiting more than 3,000 elementary school classrooms, reaching more than 70,000 Florida students in 54 counties around the state with the message of the importance of Florida agriculture.
